The purpose is to explore the potential of studying the relationships that are established when applying the discourse semiotics in the interpretation of visual construction in urban space, based on cultural studies. In this way one could account for the modes of organization of the image from the semiotic point of view, of the visual and linguistic strategies, of the underlying ideologies and of the mediations that intervene in the representation of culture in the urban space. It will try to conceptualize the visual construction of urban space, based on the theoretical guidelines of discourse semiotics and cultural studies.

The main questions are: What theoretical-methodological principles could sustain the relationship between the discursive semiotics of culture and the construction of visuality in urban space? What are the levels of analysis that could be applied to unveil the relations between the discursive semiotics of culture and the construction of visuality in urban space?

The objectives are :

·       Systematize the theoretical references that assist the study of discursive semiotics applied to visual construction in the urban space and its relationship with culture.

·       Identify the state of the art around the discursive semiotics, the visual construction in the contemporary urban space and the culture.

·       Determine the levels of analysis of the discursive semiotics of culture in the visual construction of urban space.

·       Design a theoretical-methodological proposal for the analysis of the discursive semiotics of culture and its visual construction in the urban space
