In my secondment in Palermo I wanted initially to focus on public cultural infrastructure in the frame of schools, since one of my areas of work is arts education and I was interested to find out how the city cultural life permeates educational Institutions and also how schools are open to the public through offering venues or other resources in terms of arts. Already the first jabs at the city indicated that school infrastructure in Palermo is not publicly accessible and my research would be even more interesting, but impossible on a short-term visit.

Therefore I turned my research interest into continuation from previous research and also into continuation of ongoing efforts of Bunker - how to shape production processes, curating and also public debate around notions of maintenance, care and future. Space - not just public space - for arts always seems like a never won fight or like the perfect illustration of the re-shaping cultural scene of the city. Palermo is a very vibrant city with a lot of bottom-up initiatives and a very vibrant arts scene - also with enormous amount of cultural heritage; so I was interested to see the balance between different notions of care and maintenance in relation to the future. The follow-up of the research is the debate program of the Mladi levi festival in August 2022.
