My research explored the importance and role of balconies in Italy, or more concretely in Palermo, as a bridge between public and private space. Do they have a cultural importance or are they just an architectural feature of the building? What was their importance in the past and has it changed through history and what is their importance now? Are balconies considered as private or public space?
