Aslıhan Erkmen

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aslıhan Erkmen has two BA degrees (Marmara University, Public Relations and Communication in 1995 and Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Art History Department in 2007-with honors), an MA (Marmara University, Public Relations Department in 1997), and a Ph.D. (Istanbul Technical University, Art History Department in 2011). She worked in the private sector as a corporate communications executive until 2003. She gave up her professional career for academia and concentrated on her Art History research. She was a visiting scholar at the SOAS University of London and the University of Pennsylvania during her doctoral studies. Since 2010 Aslıhan Erkmen is a lecturer at the Fine Arts Department, Art History, and History of Science and Technology programs at Istanbul Technical University where she teaches at undergraduate and graduate levels. Her main research interests are Turkish and Islamic Art and Architecture; Islamic Book Arts; Illustrated Manuscripts; Traditional Arts and Crafts; Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH); Arts Management; Communication; and Museology. Erkmen conducts and/or participates in national and international research projects, writes articles and book chapters, presents papers in academic events, practices traditional arts of marbled paper and filigree. She also acts as the Board Member and Secretary-General of the Traditional Arts Association, a UNESCO-accredited NGO specialized in arts and crafts.
